These homemade dinner rolls are the perfect side dish for a nice salad, soup, stew, and many more dishes! They are warming with a hint of sweetness which is provided by a touch of maple syrup.

While I am not a huge fan of the Winter months, I do love that they are full of warming foods. Eating warm foods during these cold days can help to maintain our internal body temperature. Plus, who doesn't love warm foods, bread, in particular?!
These dinner rolls have been a recipe within my family for a long time. My grandmother makes them for every family get together and my mother turns them into hamburger buns. They really are the best rolls. Now, you are probably thinking that I am biased with how they taste because two people that I love dearly make them. Although, when you make them, you'll realize why I'm biased. They pull apart easily, are soft, and slightly sweet. That is sweet in the just right amount kind of way. And that is coming from someone who prefers savory over sweet.
Why You Will Love This Dinner Roll Recipe
- This recipe is so simple. It requires only 6 ingredients that are to be sure to be found around your home. One ingredient that you may not have in your home is the maple syrup. Although, that can be substituted with honey if you have to.
- This recipe is quick. Something that bugs me is when I just need to quickly whip up some bread, but the recipe has long rise times that will take all afternoon instead of an hour or so. This recipe has two rises. Although, the rises combined have never taken me more than an hour and a half. They go quickly near a warm place in your home like by a fire or under an oven light! I have also varied my rise times with this recipe. Sometimes I don't let it fully rise and other times I do depending on how much time I have. It is flexible!
- This recipe only uses 1 bowl. This recipe isn't fussy. Simple place the dry ingredients into a bowl and add the wet right on top. You can do the first rise in that same bowl as well. Isn't that great?!
- Lastly, this recipe is versatile. Like I said above, my grandmother uses this recipe to make dinner rolls, which is what we are doing today. On the other hand, my mother uses this recipe to hamburger buns. The only thing they do differently is the shaping at the end. My grandmother makes them more like a ball and smaller. While my mother shapes them larger and kind of like a patty. Both turn out delicious!

How To Make Homemade Dinner Rolls Recipe Step-By-Step

Start by placing all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. This includes the all-purpose flour, salt, and active dry yeast.

Second, to the dry ingredients, add in the wet. This includes the maple syrup, room temperature butter, and the room temperature water.

Combine all of the ingredients together and knead for about 8 minutes or until you have a smooth dough ball. Then, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a tea towel. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled. The rise times will vary depending on the temperature of your home. We keep our home at about 70 degrees. With that temperature and the dough sitting under the oven light, it takes about 45 minutes for the first rise and about 15 minutes for the second rise.

Once doubled, punch the dough down. Then, shape into rolls and place onto a greased 9x13 pan with butter. When placing them in the pan, leave some space between so they don't crowd too much when rising and baking.

Allow a second rise once the rolls are shaped. They should double in size with this rise as well. Lastly, bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Serve while still warm! Enjoy!
