How to Make Pickled Red Onions Step-by-Step
To start, slice a red onion very thinly. Place into a bowl or on a plate and set aside.

To a small saucepan, add in the red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, and salt.

Place the small saucepan over medium high heat and allow to come to a boil. Stirring every so often.
Once boiled, turn back and simmer until the honey and salt are fully dissolved into the vinegars. This will take about 1-2 minutes.
Remove from the stovetop and add in the thinly sliced red onions. Pushing the red onions down so they have fully emerged into the brine.

Allow the brine and onion to sit together until fully cooled off.
Once fully cooled, store in an airtight container in the fridge. These pickled red onions can last in the fridge for up to one month!

These pickled red onions are perfectly tangy and crunchy! This recipe is super quick to whip up, so quick that within 15 minutes you will have pickled red onions. They are a perfect topping for salads, bowls, or sandwiches!
Ingredients
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup red wine vinegar
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons raw honey
- 2 Tablespoons kosher salt
Instructions
- To start, taking the red onion, remove the skin and thinly slice. Place into a bowl or on a plate and set aside.
- In a small saucepan, add in the 1 cup red wine vinegar, ½ cup apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons raw honey, and 2 tablespoons kosher salt. Give it a quick stir.
- Place the brine mixture on the stovetop over medium high heat. Allow the brine to come to a boil then turn back to a simmer, stirring until the honey and salt are fully dissolved into the vinegars.
- Once fully dissolved, remove from the stovetop and add in the thinly sliced onions. Push the red onion down so it is fully submerged into the brine.
- Allow to sit until it is fully cooled off.
- Transfer to an airtight jar or container and place in the fridge for up to 1 month.
Notes
These pickled red onions can be enjoyed immediately after they are made! No need to let them sit. The flavor is apparent right away.
